Are they REALLY "lesser" players if they are beating you?
There really is too much information to write in a post...but if we're talking about rookies and sub-rookies, I would focus on taking quick mental notes on your opponent. Here's some thoughts for blocking "lesser" players...
1. See what holes he likes to hit and shut those down. Don't give him easy passes/shots that are in his comfort zone. Example: If he hits a snappy pull side roller...then you MAKE him go push side next time. If it's not as snappy...then you know that's his weakside.
2. Watch for tells. Just about all rookies have these. A slight hitch before they shoot...or setting their man on the ball different for pullside vs. pushside roller. Maybe they flinch their man before they shoot a pull. Maybe they tense up right before they go.
Their 5 bar is really full of tells too. Study their passes and release points. As a general rule of thumb, make them go lane and not wall.
3. Always be ready for gimmick shots. Lots of rookies have go-to quick shots, pin shots, kick shots that they know are good for one point a game. Rookies do not have the restraint to save these go-to shots for big points, so always be on guard for quick shots while they are setting up their main shot.
I would say those tips should help you get enough stops for your offense to win the game if you truly are better than your opponents.
